With high levels of poverty and unemployment, access to healthy food was a pre-existing challenge in Cape Breton; Covid-19 has made it so much worse. More people are now struggling to provide food for themselves and their families.
At New Dawn Meals on Wheels, when the pandemic began, we knew we needed to do more to keep our elderly and vulnerable populations safe and at home.
Since the state of emergency was declared in Nova Scotia, we've delivered 200 additional meals each week to seniors in need — a staggering 80% increase.
We also launched the Good Food Pack program and have delivered groceries to 730 seniors and families who couldn’t otherwise afford them. This is a good start, but we still need to do more. With your help, we can.
- A $15 donation will deliver a nutritious meal to a senior in our community.
